  • The minimum tenure for an NRE Recurring Deposit is 1 year, while for an NRO Recurring Deposit, it is 6 months.

  • Tenure can be extended in multiples of 3 months, with a maximum limit of 10 years.

Penalty on Delayed RD Installments

  • A penalty of ₹12 per ₹1,000 is charged for delayed installments.

  • A part of a month is considered as a full month for penalty calculation.

  • The penalty is deducted from the total interest payable at maturity.

 

RD Interest Rates on Premature Withdrawal

  • Interest is calculated based on the period the deposit remained with ICICI Bank.

  • A penalty is applied as per the table below:

Is the interest earned on NRE and NRO Recurring Deposits taxable in India?

Interest earned on NRE Recurring Deposits is not taxable in India.

Interest earned on NRO Recurring Deposits is taxable and subject to TDS.

Can I close my NRE or NRO Recurring Deposit before maturity?

Yes, both NRE and NRO Recurring Deposits can be closed prematurely.

Interest will be paid at the rate applicable for the period the deposit remained with the bank, after deducting any penalties.

In case of NRE RD closed before 12 months, no interest is payable.

What is the penalty for delay in installment payment for Recurring Deposits?

A penalty of ₹12 per ₹1,000 per delayed installment is applicable for both NRE and NRO Recurring Deposits.

What is the minimum and maximum tenure for NRE and NRO Recurring Deposits?

NRE RD: Minimum tenure is 1 year, and maximum is 10 years (in multiples of 3 months).
